On This Day...

Wow, I have some catching up to do again! The two layouts I mentioned in my last post seem to have figured themselves out, and cooperated when I tried uploading them to my Scrapbook.com gallery. I'll come back tomorrow and indulge you on those two layouts!

Tonight, I completed the second of a few layouts detailing our nieces wedding this past September. The first was the Silly Hats layout. I have permission to post my layouts of her wedding to my online gallery, so feel free to head on over and have a peek!

The color scheme S chose for her wedding was mainly black, white and blue, so I naturally stuck with those colours in this layout. I love the effect you'll see on the title mat and under the bells; taking a sponge dauber, I filled it up with Not Quite Navy ink (SU), and literally dabbed at the paper to create a spray painted-ish look. Love!!

On the grey card stock matting the photos, I used Whisper White Ink, and an Easter SU stamp that reminded me of rain, and stamped the background. Yes, it was a wet and rainy day, but it cleared up enough to make for some beautiful sunset photos during their photo shoot. It didn't matter that it rained. The day was still beautiful. ANother little element I included to tie the rain aspect into my layout is the little blue umbrella brad (Carta Bella Alphabet Junction).

The May your joys be many is actually a Jillibean Soup Christmas tag (Winter Tortellini), but I thought it worked beautifully here. The blue circle matted underneath that is Creative Memories, and both hearts on the page are K&Co.

Once again, Pinterest to the rescue! The sketch I came across there is what inspired this layout. I love how many pictures I was able to fit into it! Rather than using 3x3, which is what it called for, I re-adjusted the size to 2.5x2.5, so it would fit nicely on an 8.5x11 size layout. I think I could have gone a bit smaller, but I'm happy with the final result!

S, hopefully you like it, too!

Have a great night.

Hope you drop by again soon.

Small Gestures

Did you hear? I'm having a giveaway! For more details, scroll down, or click on this link to head straight over there, and click here to see what's included in the RAK!

One of the things that I've wanted to cross off my scrappy bucket list is painting/chalking/inking (and for those of you that have mists- misting) using a template of some kind. Since I have none of those things in my arsenal as of yet, I used what I had on hand. While it may not look as nice as spray inks and proper templates do, I still really like the effect this created.

I used what I had on hand- being Stampin' Up ink, and a paper (dollar store) doily. Then, I took a sponge dauber and inked away! Once that was done, I layered on the elements and called it done.

Before that, though, I altered a few other items. The bird within the frame is a K& Co chipboard frame, and it was fairly blah being an off-white with barely there script scrolling across it. If you were going for a monochromatic colour scheme, it would be beautiful. I wanted more colour, so I used Summer Sun ink (SU) to fill in the scalloped edge, then Cameo Coral for the flowers, and lastly Old Olive for the leaves. For the bird, I used Martha Stewart glitter in Peridot. (I used Always Artichoke ink for blending in the shape of the doily).

The butterflies are vellum, and they're also K&Co. We all know what vellum looks like, and they seemed to be a little lost on the layout- blending in with the white background. Once again, perfect if you're going for a monochromatic colour scheme. With my sponge dauber, I painted them in using Cameo Coral and Ruby Red.

To ground my picture, I threw on a piece of scrap patterned paper (from K&Co's Itsy Bitsy 6x6 paper pad), and then flipped over a smaller piece of the same patterned paper for the sentiment, which is a rub-on and I'm not sure where it came from anymore.

I think the girls sat outside one evening with their daddy while he had his 'yucky smoke', and when they came back in, they were holding some flowers that had come from the flowerbed underneath my living room window. Never mind they came from my own garden- they're still beautiful, and I loved the gesture!

...Just Keep Swimming...

Did you hear? I'm having a giveaway! For more details, scroll down, or click on this link to head straight over there, and click here to see what's included in the RAK!

Just like their parents, the girls took to the water like fish to the sea. They may still be afraid to lay on their back and float, and submerge their ears in it. If you ignore all that, water is their best friend. And, since I'm on the topic of water, my sister and I are splitting the cost of purchasing private swimming lessons for our mom. She never learned to swim, and we think she'd love it. Shhh--its for her birthday, which is coming up in a few short weeks. Don't tell her...its our little secret!

The kids spent a lot of time in their swimming pool this summer. All that hot weather was the perfect excuse to really break it in! If we weren't swimming in our own little swimming pool, we were taking in the spray park down at Rotary Park. It was like our second home this summer! I'm not sure how much time we'll have left anymore to visit the spray park, but it sure is a lot of fun. Hopefully we have a bit more time left! (Though, I'm really enjoying the current slipper and sweater weather that happily greeted us this morning).

The patterned papers that I used in this layout are from K&Co's Itsy Bitsy collection (the 8.5x8.5 paper pad). I love the colours and patterns in this collection! Great for babies and small, girly children. I picked up the pattern in Addisons' bathing suit (the circles/polka dots) and carried it into my layout- both in a scallop border and polka dot embellishment. To make the circles, I used my ancient Creative Memories circle punch (.5" and 1.5" punch). To make the scallop border, I just cut the circles in half and arranged them halfway across the page above my photo.

The 'you and me' tag is Sandy Lion (from the Dollar Store).

For a tiny bit of bling, I added white rhinestones, and stamped the title using alpha stamps from Michaels in Basic Black ink (SU). The date (6 and 12 that's inset in two of the circles) were stamped using Old Olive ink, also from SU.

That's all for now. Hope you're having a terrific evening!

Till next time,

Simple Pleasures

Are any of you watching Canada's Got Talent?

Husband and I record it on the pvr and then watch it when we have the time to sit down and veg (usually after the kids have gone to bed, and we have nothing better to do).

Before CGT, I had never heard of Stephan Moccio, one of the judges. Actually, I remember seeing him in a short news interview- must have been on Entertainment Tonight or something like that- because when I searched him out on Youtube, I saw a picture of him that reminded me I had, in fact, seen him once before. But, had no clue who he was, and didn't really care all that much right in that moment.

That sentiment has changed. Aside from having the most gorgeous curls and dimples, he is a talented musician. And, I must say, I have a new favourite artist.

And, is it me, or does he share a striking resemblance to Josh Groban??? (Apparently every picture I tried uploading is incorrect, so unfortunately, you're going to have to look him up yourself. Boo!!)

I'm SO heading out and buying his music.

Music.

I've mentioned in previous posts, that Addison loves her "song". I think, in general, she just loves music. I think I may have passed that on to her. Because, I love music- of course, there are some styles that I stay away from (like the really heavy stuff), but for the most part, it really resonates with me. Classical, especially. I am not very cultured in it, I don't know much about it, and I couldn't tell you the specifics surrounding a piece- the composer, when it was composed, what the ebbs and flows of it mean...all I know is it moves me.

The piano, especially. I have a hard time not closing my eyes and just letting myself get lost in its sound. Sometimes, I get so wrapped up in its sound (like Stephans' performance tonight, for example), that when the performance is over, I want to clap along with the audience because it was so inspiring. And, so beautiful.

Another favourite is Bond:

31* music
32* musicians that are so talented, they have an impeccable ability to move you- even through the tv

And, for fun, I thought I'd share this little nugget of goodness with you:

This lo came about because the kids just ADORE our sunglasses. I don't know what it is, but they have an honest infatuation with them! A few pairs of Kyle's sunglasses have been broken by the kids playing with them. Then, Addison got a hold of mine, which are seen in that 5x7 pic, and shortly afterwards, she broke them.

So, we've smartened up. We bought them their own sunglasses!! (Those are the 2x2 pics). Hello Kitty--and they're so precious!!! The design for this project was the brain child of another scrapbooker. You can find the deets at my scrapbook.com gallery. I haven't asked her for permission to mention her here in my blog, so I'll let you find out using the 'back door' approach! And, because I can't take credit for a creation that wasn't my own idea in the first place!

What was my idea was adding the envelope and card. I inserted the card inside the envelope, and it contains the journalling for this layout. (It basically just describes what I told you- but a little more abridged! Haha)

Whee!!

The pieces of paper with all the ribbon on it are additional journalling blocks. Go to my last post to find out what it all says!

17* another sunshine-filled day
18* a hobby that I enjoy so fully and completely
19* "whee" and "yippee" and "no way"s
20* laughter

Something New

Neither of you had seen anything like it in your short baby lives. The lights were bright, the air was cool, and then soon there were men gliding around on ice in bright colored jerseys, pushing around black round objects that made loud noises when they hit the glass in front of us.

You looked at the ceiling, rippled and poorly absorbing the heat the furnace was undoubtedly throwing into the air, at people filling up the lobby, at the policeman in his uniform standing directly behind the chair I was sitting in, taking everything in. Faintly, a slight smile crossed your mouth (behind your sucky), or did it? I couldn't really tell. Daddy thought he saw it, too.

You were about to witness your first hockey game- fights and all. It was going to be the battle of the towns: Arcola vs. Carlyle. (Go Combines, go!!)

In my lap, you were lightly bouncing binky's pink bunny ear in the air, staring intently at the men on the ice warming up; then you were in mama's arms as I stood rigidly in the corner, in front of the plexiglas separating us from colder air still, and flying hockey pucks that could knock a person out, leaving pretty colors in its wake, should they hit you. The loud, sudden sound of the puck hitting the glass evoked no fear of any kind in you--not even a response.

Daddy and I looked at eachother in surprise--and relief. We might have a good night afterall!

I underestimated just how good the night would be for you and I. Shortly after the game began, you began slouching in my lap, you began whining and wouldn't settle down. Finally, upon standing for the thirtieth time, I decided to cradle you to sleep like I had done so many times when you were itty bitty tiny.

Sucky in mouth, binky tucked under your arm with soft ears at your chin for easy access (to either play with or chew on--of course all at your own discretion), and blanket covering you for extra warmth, you settled. You stared for the longest time at the policemen (by that time a few more had dropped in to visit--must have been a real busy night) and paramedics standing behind us, talking to the couple with a baby there, just as if you were eavesdropping on their Newfie-accented conversation; your sister was intent on playing with the mama and the baby at the same time. For her, there was too much going on, too much to absorb, too much to miss should she go to sleep.

Nope, she'd keep going till she dropped in her tracks.

(Where does she get all her energy, daddy asked. Its beyond me, truthfully, but all I told him was babies are supposed to be full of energy, and as we grow up, we lose it...)

Finally, eventually, you fell to sleep. Deeply enough, I might add, for sucky to even fall from your mouth.

 Twice.

(Of course, you woke a few times in between to cry and whimper, but you soon were back to dreamland each time).

Even though the rest of the night was rough for the three of us, thank you so much for this small gift. I love moments like this.
