Lifestyle Photos

Good afternoon! How is your Thursday going? Its another beautiful day here- we're above 10 degrees again this afternoon. The windows are cracked a bit again today, letting some of that wonderful fresh air into the house to freshen things up again. I love it!! We waited until nearly noon for Kyle to come home--he was gone for a good 16 hours last night! Yikes. He says there's a possibility he could be going out again tonight; if not, he's got a rig move going on tomorrow. In a way, I hope he doesn't have to work until tomorrow. He's going to need the rest. Switching from day to nights to days again is going to wreak havoc on his internal clock. I don't envy him at this time of year at all!

To keep myself busy last night, I created another layout, and the finished product came about by chance. Sort of. I desperately need a new blade for my paper trimmer, but Walmart doesn't carry the replacement blades (yet they carry the paper trimmer, itself. Go figure). Grrr. (On a tangent, its like training pants. They have potty training underwear for the littles, but don't carry the plastic liners that a toddler wears over top of them. S.M.R.T. If you ask me.)

Cutting regular weight patterned paper is taking chance into your own hands- the cut could be crisp and clean, but more likely, its going to be ripped and torn and plain messy looking. Which, it was. So, I decided to roll with it. I broke out a piece of sand paper (which I haven't used in a coons age), and distressed the edges of all the paper in this layout, including the pictures. I was going for a shabby chic sort of look. I don't think I mastered it at all, but I do like the distressed look. Actually, I love the distressed look. I need to do it a little more often. I love the personality and character it adds.

I began with a plain piece of white card stock, and used a tooth brush (of all things) to paint on the background. I like the dry brushing look it lends. I tried the splattering technique first, but haven't quite gotten the hang of it. I scrapped that idea and just painted the old fashioned way (except for the tooth brush part). I cut the squares of patterned paper to the same size as the pictures, which is 2x3--which I find works incredibly well for an 8.5x11 size layout, if you want multiple photos--then embellished them a bit using stickers, a photo corner and what was left of the patterned paper I used behind the white card stock.

Lastly, the numbers of the date didn't match my color scheme (which I pulled inspiration from Pinterest for), so I painted them up, too. I used a small paint brush to add color, then took a dry paint brush and dry stroked them to help some of the color pop through, but not too much. It also adds a bit more texture to the layout, too. IRL it almost looks like wood grain.

The inspiration for my layout came from Pinterest (it originally came from the JBS blog, I do believe), but there was no way I was going to be able to stretch my title work across the top of the page. I split it up- part of it along the top of the spread, and the last half along the bottom of my spread. It helps carry your eye right to the bottom of the layout. I think, though, if I were to tweak it a little more, I'd add some more deep brown accents to my layout, as another way to help draw a persons eye around the page. I can't help but feel the eye gets stuck on the date.

Meh, oh well. Work place hazard :) I'm still in love with my layout!!

I may or may not attempt scrapping again tonight. It all depends on what my husband wants to do and how he feels. If he needs more sleep, I'll be back in here crafting up a storm. But, if he feels lively enough, I'm going to chillax with him, instead. I've missed him these last two days!

Fulfilling Project

I am finally nearing the end of our boudoir/lifestyle photo session scrapbook pages. In a way, I'm kind of sad that I'm at the end (I have only one layout left in this series), but in a way, I'm incredibly satisfied. Not only did I scrapbook these pictures for the girls to look back on, and see what fun their mama and auntie A had, but I also got a special mini album and layout done for my best friend. That's about as fulfilling as scrapbooking can get. And, nothing is more rewarding!

I'm now contemplating making a layout of our day just for myself, to hang on one of the walls in our house. I just might have to do that!

The layout I completed last night, the one you'll find here, finally deals with the whole point of our day: our photos! As part of my package, I got to have a few lifestyle photos done, so those are in plain view on this layout. I wasn't comfortable sharing my boudoir photos with the world wide web, so I got creative with the sketch I used, and the layout I created.

This is my favorite part! In the sketch, a tag with journalling was added to the right side of both pictures. Since this layout didn't require any journalling, I switched it up and made this cute little flip book, which is tied closed with lace ribbon. I used the lace ribbon to mimic the outfit I was wearing in my boudoir photos, which is partly white lace. If anyone wants to see the hidden pictures, all they need to do is untie the ribbon, and flip through the book. For a little bit of a teaser, I made each succeeding page a tad bit longer (also so the pages are a bit easier to flip). I also switched the placement of the journalling tag- rather than the right side, I put my flip book on the left side of the layout.

The outfit I wore for my boudoir photos is black and white, so I wanted to stick with a color scheme that highlighted those two colors. I found a color scheme (on Pinterest) that added yellow as an accent color, so used varying shades and tones of yellow and light brown/ to accent this layout. Once again, I carried the lace theme throughout the layout, using a lace doily in the background.

When it was time to add the title work, I began wondering what type of alpha would be best to use. I wanted to add a bit of a glamorous air, since both A and I felt pretty glamorous all dolled up, so pulled out my dollar store glitter alphas. There wasn't a second 'O' in black, so I cut a part a lower case 'd', to make the letter 'O', and consequently a letter 'I', since I wasn't able to find that in black, either. Once in a while, it helps to think outside the box!

Its a very simple design, but that's the way I like it!

All About Family

Once again, time has gotten away from me! Where does time go?!

I want to highlight a few of my favorite layouts from my scap binge last weekend. I got so many done, that there's just way too many to post here.

You'll be able to find all my layouts in various places- either here, here or here. My Pinterest also includes all the items that inspired me, too.

First up, First Snow. Way back in October, the first flakes of snow fell. The girls and I got all dressed up and headed outside to make our very first snowman, and attempt showing them how to make snowballs. Both turned out to be a project for mommy only, but we still had fun. They love catching snowflakes on their tongues- that was something else mama taught them while we gallavanted in the snow.

I absolutely love the papers I chose to use on this layout. Blue and red is another fave color combo. And the patterns on this one? Out of this world! I just LOVE it!!! All papers used are Jillibean Soup, from the Winter Tortellini collection. Oh, except for the one strip of blue polka dot paper that's punched. That's from Carta Bella (Merry and Bright Collection).

Another favorite is my Family layout. The content is fairly intimate; its another layout dealing with my struggle with Post Partum Depression. A song that has come to mean a lot to me during this period in my life is I Will Not Give Up, by Jason Mraz. I wanted to find a design that saved a lot of room for journalling (so I would write out the lyrics to the song), and the one I chose for this layout met that requirement beautifully.

My favorite part about that layout is all the white space! Its short and sweet, and to the point. A lot like me, now that I think about it.

You are Beautiful. We frequently tell our girls that. We may be a little biased, but I think its 100% true. My hope is that if the girls hear it enough throughout their lives, they'll believe it, and not think less of themselves. Part of that hope is also instilling in them the trust that their mama and daddy are incredibly proud of them (which we are), and we tell them that often, too. I never heard it much from either of my parents growing up; I don't want my children growing up without hearing those important words from the most important people in their lives.

The sticker sentiment that makes up the title on this layout sums up how I feel about both of the girls perfectly. I couldn't have said it better myself!

Next comes my Cozy layout. Its another layout of Neruda, the cat we're taking care of for my sister. She just looks so snug and cozy all curled up under the curtains like that! All I had to do was lie on the floor (a short distance from her), zoom in, and snap away. She didn't even notice a thing! Lucky for me :)

The title is my favorite part of this layout. It has a real home spun, cozy sort of feel. LOVE!!

Lastly begins the Boudoir photo layouts! I won't actually post any pictures of my boudoir photos, but I will post (and scrap) some of the lifestyle pics I had done with my bestie (I was able to sneak a few of those into my boudoir shoot, too). All the layouts I've done of those up to date are located in the three links I provided at the top of my post.

Enjoy and take care!

Birthdays

Good evening! Did y'all get snow today, too? It was warm, but we still got a couple centimetres of the white stuff. I didn't want to go out and shovel it- I didn't even want to brush it off my car! I guess other things around the house were more important.

Last weekend, and the weekend before, were fabulous. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their grandpa M's 70th birthday, and they enjoyed even more their own birthday, which was the following Friday. We spent the day at home, just by ourselves, and spoiled the girls rotten. They got their most favourite foods at every meal on Friday, they got to open their presents, and their mama made them each a birthday cake (one cake mix, but two round cake pans) with the color of icing of their own choice. It was a really good day.

Saturday was an absolute blast.  We threw a party for them, and invited the rest of the family (grandparents, aunties and uncle, and some new friends- to the girls). We had quite a few guests grace our house (and spoil my children rotten), but it was a really great time of visiting, catching up with old friends (and making new friends in the process! Our children had never met, and they're only a week apart!!), eating fabulous food (and no, I'm not trying to toot my own horn! LOL), and beating a pinata senseless. It was just very simple affair- a fruit platter, veggie platter, grilled cheese for lunch, some finger foods, and the best.idea.ever. for a birthday cake.

Dairy Queen blizzard cupcakes.

Ever heard of them?? Ever had one??

I think that was the biggest hit. The kids loved it, and I'm pretty sure the adults enjoyed them, too. There's still a few left over, and one of them is calling my name. Unfortunately, its too late at night to enjoy them!! Maybe tomorrow night...

Now that I've caught you up on the events in our lives this past week, I can share with you a new layout that I made.

Not that long ago, I decided to go out and buy acrylic paint from the Dollar Store. I wasn't sure how much use I would get out of it, so I only stuck to purchasing a couple bottles. (I wound up having to buy another one, because one of my girls got a hold of it, and emptied the entire bottle on herself and the love seat in the living room. It was the end.of.the.world.) No word of a lie. There's still some faint blue stains in the carpet (leading to the bathroom), but every ounce of the blue stuff came out of the love seat. Phew!! I know that both can be replaced, but I'm not as concerned about the carpet as I am the love seat. I don't want to replace the love seat any time soon; one of these days I would love to replace the carpeting in the living room with hardwood or something else. One of these days, we do plan on tearing out the carpet on the main level of our home. Having said that, though, I'm elated that most of the blue paint came out of the carpet, too. We need it to last until we CAN replace it!

Anyways...

On the last few layouts (two of which aren't being posted because they are not cooperating), I've been using my acrylic paint. I've been using my acrylic paint to paint wood veneers that I've been finding down at Walmart recently. In the scrap candy aisle. They're only a $1.00 each, and there's maybe 6-7 pieces in each little packet. I've got everything from leaves to crowns to helicopters and wedding dresses. I urge you to go and pick some up if you haven't already! They make great accents to any project!

So, on this project, I found a crown and painted it Island Blue (DecoArt brand). Its such a pretty colour! I had done part of the title in blue alphas, so I wanted to pick up more of the blue throughout, which is why I chose to paint the crown blue. To bling it up a little, I added some Recollections pearl rhinestones, and a clear rhinestone.

The centre part of the layout originally was dedicated to journalling (on the sketch that I used that inspired this layout), but as I was trying to figure out how I was going to make the journalling portion pretty, I came up with the idea of layering a few strips of scallop punched paper, on an angle, for some interest. I liked the way it looked so much, I decided not to cover it up (after adhering journalling strips and not liking that it was covering up the prettiness). Instead, the smaller blue half circle that's beside the larger circle (matting the crown) is actually a pull tab for hidden journalling. It also includes the date of the event we attended.

You're probably wondering what the deal is with the hats. Our niece got married on the first of September (2012), and silly hats were encouraged at the ceremony. The guests that came up with the most unique/goofiest hats would win prizes (which wound up being a bottle of wine. Pretty nice prize, actually!) There's a story behind Kyle's tacky piggy hat, but that'll be shared in a future layout. The girls, and their cousin Chloe, all got hats from the Dollar Store, so they could participate, too. Not that the hats lasted long.

I'm also trying to use up some of my older paper lately. The patterned papers I used on this project came from K&Co's Best Of Collection. There's 360 sheets of paper in it, and its great, but my only issue with it is its thin. Not always very functional if you want to...say...die cut something with your Cricut. Grr. Minor pet peeve. Sometimes even my paper trimmer messes up the paper. Anyways, there's a lot of gorgeous patterned paper in there, and I wanted to find something that would work well with red card stock, since red is the color of love, and since the major theme of this particular layout (though maybe understated) is a wedding.

You may or may not see more of it in future layouts. We'll have to see!

You WILL see more paint in the future- and in more colors than the three I currently own (blue, green, and antique white). Eek! I feel a Dollar Store shopping spree coming on!

See you next time,

~a

Smokin'!

Hi everyone!

What a fantastic weekend! Oh.my.word. Seriously, I had such a blast! It went all to quickly, unfortunately. But, doesn't it always!? In addition to having my hair done, and then having my boudoir photo session on Saturday, I also had the chance to (just barely) buy the girls some new winter coats, boots, running shoes and dress shoes. I wanted to hit Costco for their winter attire, but they had nothing out yet! What???! I was astonished. Walmart didn't have anything, either. Luckily, we found two (of three or four) coats in their size, and that.was.it. I still need to buy snow pants for the kids. I find it incredible that the supervisors at Walmart under ordered at this time of year. Another brownie point in my little black book for lovely Walmart! LOL

Here's a little preview of what my girlfriend and I looked like after we were all made up. Here's what we looked like before:

Dramatic difference, huh? I can't help but continually stare at the picture of us...I SO need to learn how to do my make up that way! We were smoking!!!!

Since I didn't have the time to, and since I hadn't uploaded the camera before this last weekend, I thought I'd take the time now to share with you some close ups of the last layout I completed.

Later on this week, I'll have a couple more DT assignments/reveals to share with you. I can hardly wait to get them posted!

In the mean time, I'll share a card with you that I made for our nieces' 3rd birthday two weekends ago:

This was super simple to make, and I think the final result is super duper cute! I used my Cricut to cut the cupcake card, using the Wildcard cartridge; I cut the cupcake liner out of blue/turquoise card stock, and the icing from white card stock. The candle and flame (as well as the birthday sentiment) were made using scraps. Everything is adhered to a kraft card stock background. For some sparkle and bling, I added clear rhinestones (to mimic sprinkles, naturally), and I used MS glitter in Crystal Fine for the sentiment.

Enjoy the rest of your evening, everyone!

Till next time,

~a

Besties

Did you hear? I'm having a giveaway! For more details, scroll down, or click on this link to head straight over there, and click here to see what's included in the RAK!

Do you have a friend that is very special to you? Do you get to see her (or him) very often? Have you been friends for so.long that you don't even remember when you first met?

We've been through a lot, A and I, and our friendship has weathered a lot of storms. There have been times where we haven't been close and haven't had much contact, but somehow, our friendship has defied the 'friends for a season' cliche, and its withstood the test of time. Not many friendships last that long, and if they do, they're one in a million. Our friendship is one of those that even if we drift apart and our lives get in the way, we'll still be able to pick up where we left off.

I'm so thankful that happened with our move back to Alberta. Not that we didn't stay in touch while we lived in a completely different province. We did. But, now that we're so.much.closer, we've renewed the desire to meet up as much as our schedules allow. We often don't get to talk much in-between, but when we do have a coffee date planned, there's a ton to share! I actually kind of like it that way. Then we never have anything dull to talk about, and its never repeated 20 million times. Its always fresh and new.

We've discovered that the best way for us to get the most amount of time to visit (while also knocking off a must-do chore from our ever-growing to-do lists), is to book our hair appointments together. Yeah, it only happens every 6-8 weeks, but it works so well for us! We usually meet up for lunch beforehand, chit chat through our meal, and then continue on while we're having our hair done. Its wonderful! And, kudos' to our hairdresser for being willing to do our hair at the same time. She's an absolute blessing! In the end, that's an entire afternoon catching up with my bestie.

This layout is a mix and match of all sorts of papers. Some of it is Recollections, some of it is K&Co, some of it is DCWV (I think) and some of it is even Sandy Lion. That little piece of ribbon at the top, above the picture? Hidden journalling.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing another layout, but that one is fairly personal. Upon hearing that scrapping the hard times as well as the good could be therapeutic, I decided to take that advice and get 'er done. It may not appeal to some of you, and if not, that's totally fine. Just come back whenever you're ready!

Till then,

~a

Got Sketch?

Did you hear? I'm having a giveaway! For more details, scroll down, or click on this link to head straight over there!

I based this layout on sketch 68 over at Got Sketch? I thought it would perfectly highlight the damage done to one of the girls' toys after being thrown down the stairs. I am not sure, exactly, what possesses the kids to throw things down there, other than to see what happens. Oh, the things I find down there! My mop and bucket, dish towels, shoes, toys--you name it, it has been thrown over the bannister and down the stairs.

We had a fabulous weekend with my dear friend visiting. We got a lot of visiting in, even with the kids around, and we learned that the jet boat races are incredibly entertaining boring. I don't think we'll be going again. But, at least now we know!

Annnnd, I've learned that the girls think there's an 'uncle' since I was calling A auntie A all weekend. Oops! How do you explain to little ones that its possible to have an 'auntie', even if there's no 'uncle' yet??? And, they're right to suppose that when there's an auntie, there should be an uncle. The only time we've referred to an auntie and uncle is when my sister and brother in law are around. Must be a tough thing to be a kid!!

So--nothing too exciting should be happening now until the end of the month- when A and I have our next hair appointment scheduled, and our niece gets married! After that, (apparently), the kids will be joining their grandparents on one last camping trip of the summer, and hopefully the weather will have cooled off {considerably} by then!

Thanks for dropping by,

~a

Shining Bank Lake

Fewf, I'm tired tonight! This post will be just a quick little update and 'hey how're you doing' then I'm going to bed. Oi. We'll be back at it again tomorrow before I even know it!!

Yep, it was another action packed, fun-filled day. The girls did awesome- no naps, and no major meltdowns! They got to go swimming in a lake for their very first time- which they loved (of course), and they rode in their very first motorboat. We thought Maren would for sure panic and dislike the sound of it, but it didn't bother her one bit. In fact, I think she loved it. When we returned to the dock, she asked if she could go again. Unfortunately, some of the family wanted to head out for some more fishing, so that ended our motor boating for the day.

Well...from then on, Maren was fairly fussy- but not in the usual way- if there is such a thing. Mostly, if anything caught her off guard, or if she had a little accident the tears would flood out of those sweet blues faster than a flash of lightning- and those sweet tears would just keep coming. Kind of like tears just hovering beneath the surface, waiting for any old excuse to come rolling out, and when they do, they just won't stop.

We hardly left the campground on our way home before she'd fallen to sleep. She.was.pooped.

Now, it could just be hearsay and gossip, but apparently, there was a tornado at the top of the hill tonight. We are only half an hour out of town (at the campground), so we knew there were thunderstorms around because we could see the clouds and hear the thunder. At one point, we thought we were going to be rained out, but they (two storms) went around us. There was one to the north, and another to the south of us lol. We're thinking it was probably just strong winds associated with the thunderstorms, but we're going to go check it out for ourselves tomorrow. Its made us curious. If I have anything to report back, you'll see it in pictures!

Ummm...any other highlights from the day? Nope, I think that was pretty much it. It was just a relaxed day, full of good visits, laughs and fabulous memories! Our niece and the girls' cousin is spending the night tonight- probably because staying in the motorhome with grandma and grandpa wasn't the most conducive to C sleeping through the night. I mean, she's only 5 months older than the girls. They've got it made tonight, boy. Sleeping in the basement where its nice and cool- they'll not want to go home!

Now I'm turning in, speaking of sleeping. I'll be back again sometime tomorrow- probably tomorrow night- with another little hello. Depending on how late we come home, there may or may not be pictures. Most likely, that'll wait until Monday! Kyle has plans to tinker on the drag truck, and I plan to scrap when I've got a spare moment on Monday, so at the very least, I'll be back in full force then!

Take care,

~a

Peace Out

Hey hey everyone!

Just wanted to drop in and say a friendly 'hello' before stumbling off to bed. Its late, I'm tired, and so looking forward to a day off without the twinlets (though they'll be home around supper time tomorrow night), and a much needed appointment at the massage therapists in the afternoon. yippee!

but, before all that great stuff happens, I'll be back to share the weekend, some pictures, and a few layouts!

peace out and sweet dreams!

Moving On

Ugh. This heat is getting the better of me. Its so hot- even inside the house, even at 9 pm, that I don't even want to scrap. Bed time these days is a nightmare, too. The kids are hot and cranky, and getting them to settle just isn't fun. I'm trying to stay positive about the hot weather. Its true that we only get it for a short period of time. Its true that when we take vacations we want a hot destination. Its true that when its 32 below, all we want is hot weather again. Sounds like we're never happy with anything, doesn't it?

When we go on our vacation and want a hot destination, its mostly because we're travelling when its miserably cold outside and we want to remember what summertime feels like. If it isn't during the winter, its because tropical destinations and hot weather are synonymous. In a climate like ours, moderate temperatures are what we're used to, and if it climbs above that, most of us become irritable and cranky. (Mainly me).

When its 32 below, most of us just want (once again) a moderate temperature. The cold temperatures aren't bad, as long as there isn't wind or terrible weather accompanying it. And, its true that summer passes way too quickly for our personal liking.

But, when does hot become too hot? For me, its anything above 25! Thank goodness we've got a basement, and it stays gloriously cool on incredibly hot days like we've been experiencing. I'll never complain again about how cold it feels down there any other time of the year! Its a blessing in disguise!

I've got another layout to share today.

The story behind this layout is incredible. At least, in my humble opinion it is. Introducing Addison's 'kiki'. She loved on it fully and fiercely for quite some time. He was SO loved, that he lost his ears (bunny ears), an arm, the stuffing out of the other, and was about to lose his head. All that, and he was incredibly smelly and dirty. Washing never really thoroughly cleaned him or got rid of the smell.

When I realized that kiki was going to lose his head, I sat down with Addison at the kitchen table, and had a heart to heart with her. (And, with Cat in the Hat on tv, too. I'm not sure how the message got through with her eyes glued to the tv, but it did. Hallelujah!!)

As gently and convincingly as I could, I told her that she had loved kiki for a long time, and so well, that he was beginning to fall apart, and it was time for him to be replaced. I showed her another kiki (of the many we've got kicking around our house- and one thats as similar to her previous kiki as possible) and told her that this one was feeling left out and wanted to be loved just as much as her old one.

As sneakily as possible, I tossed the old kiki over to Kyle (who put him in my office for me), and handed her the new one. She hung onto it until bedtime, and then decided she wanted her other kiki back. That night, the entire time I read their bedtime stories to them, she kept asking for her kiki. And, as kindly and tenderly as I could, I kept reassuring her that this new kiki would love her, and it needed to be loved in return; and that the other kiki needed a break.

Incredibly by the time lights out came around, she was fine with moving on. We haven't had an incident yet. She's never once asked for her old kiki, nor has she clung to the new kiki we gave her. Who ever would have thought that would be as easy as it was?!

I haven't scrapped about Maren's conversion yet, but she willingly traded in her old kiki for another one. Incredibly. And, when her kiki gets smelly and dirty enough, she asks for him to be put in the 'machine'. Mind you, she doesn't like when he's away from her, but she does like it when he's clean.

Isn't that cool?!

(And actually, now that I think about it, breaking the kids of sucking on their soothers wasn't an issue, either. I got to the point where I was so fed up with them going missing, that I stopped looking for them. When all of them were 'lost', that was it. They've never asked for them, fussed over them, or even acknowledged them if they happened to see them again. Because, as things always go, they inevitably showed up again).

This particular layout is based on the bonus sketch for the monthly sketch challenge at Scrapbook.com. The patterned papers are from a 6x6 pack of K&Co paper called Sweet Nectar (its one of my all time favourites, I think), except for the orange (though it shows up yellow) card stock.

I inked the red paper with Riding Hood Red (SU) using a sponge dauber; I inked the orange patterned paper with More Mustard ink (SU) the same way (the orange card stock is inked with the same ink). The script font in the hearts was stamped with a SU set (that I don't know the name of; sorry), and in Cajun Craze ink. The 'so' in my title work was stamped with the same colour. That stamp set (alphas) are from Michaels; and the floral paper is inked in Old Olive ink (SU). The blocked alphas are inked with Old Olive ink, as well.

The clear rhinestones I added are from Recollections at Michaels, and the white ribbon was clearance at Walmart.

Finally, my journalling is written with a yellow journalling pen from Michaels.

Tomorrow I'll be back with yet another layout! Stay tuned!

For now, I'm headed out on to the deck in an attempt to cool off!

PER-FECTO!

Hi everyone! Happy Saturday!

I have a few minutes here to sneak in a quick post while I wait for the kids to fall to sleep, then I'll be back visiting with the in-laws, so I thought I'd share Sketch #20 that Heather so creatively put together for us! You can find it at Heather's blog, Miracle's Momma's Designs, along with everyone else's interpretation of this beautiful sketch! If you have the time, you should definitely drop by and see what they've done!

Here is my interpretation of it:

The girls' favourite past time these days is pretending to be 'Super Bunny' (yes, the same super bunny from Max and Ruby). I have to admit, its pretty adorable when they scoot around the house, yelling (at the top of their lungs), 'super bunny--to the rescue!!' Makes my heart melt and giggles overflow at the same time! What makes it even better-- their super hero CAPES that their mama- in a rare stroke of sheer genius- fetched from her linen closet. It absolutely makes it more believable now!

I used my cricut to cut the 'blast' shapes, as well as the clouds and stars, then I used my cuttlebug to emboss the clouds for a little more interest and dimension. The stars, and banner on which the photos are matted are all made from scraps! And, if you look really hard, I punched out two small circle shapes, in which you'll find BUNNIES!! Yup, that's right, I was pretty stoked when I realized that particular scrap of patterned paper had little bunnies on them.

PERR-FECTO!!!

So Sweet

This was sent to me by a very dear friend. I just love it!

PASS THE BISCUIT

<image1.gif>

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then.  And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.  On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad.  I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!  Yet all my dad did was reach for his Biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school.

I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits.  And I'll never forget what he said:  "Honey, I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned.  He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your momma put in a long hard day at work today and she's real tired.  And besides... a burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things... and imperfect people.  I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else.  What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s faults and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

So...please pass me a biscuit. And yes, the burned one will do just fine!  And please pass this along to someone who has enriched your life... I just did!

Life is too short to wake up with regrets... Love the people who treat you right and forgive the ones who don't, they could just be having a hard day.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Today, I'll be packing us up and getting us ready to head into the city for the night. The girls' twin cousins are turning one, and we're heading out to their birthday party! Hopefully the weather holds up until the festivities are over! (We are in for rain all.stinking.weekend). But, I'm saying that tongue in cheek- if i rains that long, I don't have to worry about watering the plants, and the water will do the earth good. Its so dry out here, the more rain we get, the better! But, right now-- the weather looks gorgeous--so we are headed outside to enjoy it before it changes again!

Bits and Pieces

I was absolutely blown away this morning when I logged into my blog first thing this morning. I entered a challenge in order to celebrate national scrapbooking day over at distress to impress and I won!  You can see the layout I entered into the challenge here. Lots of fabulous goodies are in the prize package, including a subscription to scrap 'n art magazine.

Eek! How exciting!!

We had a busy day today, though we really didn't do much, other than go to the girls' playmates' birthday party at noon. It was such a beautiful day, they just played outside the entire time. We had a weenie roast, played with bubbles, jumped on the trampoline, slid down slides, and finished the party off with a yummy piece of ice cream cake. I wasn't really sure I wanted to go to the party (long story), but in the end, with husbands' gentle encouragement, we did go. I sat down, minutes before we left, to quickly pump out a card for P.

Seriously, I finished it in like 10-15 minutes. I am by no means a fast scrapper, so I'm pretty impressed with myself for finishing it so quickly!! Its amazing what can happen when you've got an idea in your head, and it comes to life in such a short amount of time.

Poor Maren lately has been having some problems with #2, so I've been feeding her and Addison prunes to help out. The poor girl has had so many tummy aches, that she'll wake up in bed just sobbing saying 'my tummy, my tummy'. She's never had issues like this before, so I don't quite know what's causing it. The only thing I can think is that she isn't drinking as much as she used to (when they drank with sippy cups). Now that they're drinking from cups, I only give them something to drink when they're eating and when they ask for a drink. I waste enough food as it is!!

So, she came to me from the basement, telling me she'd made a poopy (thankfully she got it all out last night, though it hurt her immensely. She hasn't cried like that in a loooonnng time), and she wanted to sit on the potty. I put her on the potty after cleaning her up, and I noticed my finger was bleeding. I don't know what happened, though a few minutes before I was trying to cut off a hang nail. I must have made myself bleed. I put a band-aid on it, and Maren starts begging for a 'boo boo'.

LOL

She had no owies, but she wanted a 'boo boo' anyways. Oh, my dear child! You're really too much sometimes!! Here's her 'boo boo':

And, here she is kissing it better:

Too cute, right??

45* invisible owies
46* boo boo's that make everything better

And, here's the mini update to the layout I posted yesterday.

I layered the punch work, and alternated the scallops in a wave like pattern because I didn't like the way the unpunched parts of the strips of paper looked showing underneath the layer below it. I also thought alternating it like this made for a really cool effect!

The flourish I totally made up on my own. Its a bunch of bits and pieces from K&Company called 'pillow stickers'. Its floral in nature, but has other elements incorporated into it- paisleys, hearts, flourishes- and all filigreed. And blingy. Very pretty! So, put all the parts together, and you've got a pretty flourish!

I am trying to stamp more, and I thought I'd try stamping on ribbon. All the inks I have right now are water based, and obviously don't work very well on this satin type ribbon. Maybe alcohol based inks or other permanent inks would work better, because this is already starting to bleed and doesn't look as crisp and pretty as it did as soon as it was done. Boo! Live and learn...Oh! I should mention- my title work was cut out of K&Company packaging. All the packing comes with printed cardboard backs (and they're all different), and I realized not long ago that I could use them on my projects. Brilliant!!!! Ingenious on their part :)

Lastly, I wanted to share the tag and the sticker I added to it. I'm not sure if the sentiment showed really well in the picture of my layout, but its so true of both my girls: they are loved and adored!

There's still challenges going on over at scrapbook.com until the end of June, I think, and I plan on getting in on some of those, too. Who knows, maybe one of my projects will win another prize?

We'll see!

47* that Kyle's boo boo has finally burst and is draining
48* that I am able to drain it for him and play nurse (even though it grosses me out- although it isn't anything like the one he had on our wedding night. Watching the dr.'s lance and drain that one, then push all the puss and blood out of it made me feel like I was going to pass out! I nearly did--I had to leave ER, and as I was leaving, another dr. asked me if I was alright. LOL. I told Kyle I was never going with him to the ER again. I would wait in the waiting room...)
49* that he might finally begin feeling some relief
50* that my spider plant is doing so well, I actually transplanted it tonight into a larger pot!

"Ready?"

We were preparing to head out for New Years.

We were going to spend it with friends that have two boys the same age as the girls.

It was going to be a bonfire, so I bundled myself and the kids up (and husband, as much as he would let me), and while husband loaded Addison into the truck, I loaded up Maren.

While I got her buckled in, I asked, "Ready?"

And her response??

"Set...GO!"

This morning, its morphed from "...set...GO!"

to "...set...GO! GO! GO!"

All she needs is your 'ready' cue.

That was the brightest moment of the evening, Miss Maren! (Your sister stole the 'brightest moment of the day' spot with trying on your mama's Christmasy red sweater.)

What's tomorrow going to bring?!
